About 1000 homeless children live in the Skid Row area of Downtown LA. As you can imagine day to day life for these kids is tough! They don’t have iPads and IPhones. They barely get enough to eat and don’t always have what they need to go back to school!
Families began lining up at 1:30am so their kids could get a chance to have a fun day, a free meal, a backpack and a pair of shoes!
On August 25, celebrities and generous sponsors teamed up with the Mission to host an End of the Summer Block Party for thousands of homeless kids and their families!
In and Out Burger, King Taco and the LA mission kitchen served up meals!
US Bank Donated $25,000 for the event and mission
Skechers donated shoes through Soles4shoes and about 1000 school aged children received backpacks full of school supplies!
There was tons of fun stuff for kids to do! Activities included bounce houses, inflatable slides, face painting and carnival games!
Many Celebrities came out to volunteer and give back to their community!
For Max Charles from Disney Channel’s Jessie, The Three Stooges, The Amazing Spiderman and A new ABC show The Neighbors, the event was a chance for his whole family to get involved! Max came with his brothers and parents!
Brendan Robinson and Janel Parrish from Pretty Little Liars came out to serve food and paint kids faces!!
Taylor Spreitler from ABC’s Melissa and Joey came out to help as well!
Dylan Snyder from Disney Channel XD's Kickin It had fun meeting the kids and monitoring the bounce house!
Drew Seeley was enjoying helping kids out at the art and crafts booth!
Brandon T. Russel and other celebrities were available to serve as table runners, carrying meals to the tables for families!
It’s great to see today’s young celebrities donating their time and energy to the children of Skid Row!
This was a wonderful event that couldn’t have happened without 100’s of volunteers and generous donations.
I know that many kids had a fun day free from their worries!!
The LA Mission has been serving homeless people in the Skid Row area for over 75 years! The mission started as simply a soup kitchen and now provides all kinds of services for the people and families of skid row!
