Keep in Touch with Stars Through Fan Mail Addresses and Twitter

I’ve met tons of stars. I live in LA and go to many events. If you don’t live in LA , or even if you do, you can keep in touch through Fan Mail and Twitter. Many stars have FaceBook too but I don’t know a lot about that.

Getting Autographs Through Fan Mail Addresses

If you can’t meet the stars in person, you can still keep in touch with them and ask for an autograph! The best way to do this is by sending an envelope to them that has your address and stamps on it already! This is also called a SASE, self-addressed stamped envelope. You then put this envelope inside another envelope along with a personalized letter, drawing, poem, whatever you want! Let the celeb know how much they mean to you and let them know what you’d like back, like an autographed headshot. Be patient, some celebs get 100’s of fan letters a day! It may takes weeks or months to get a response.

Following Stars on Twitter

Twitter is amazing! You can follow stars on Twitter and feel really connected. Some stars use Twitter for different reasons:

Some stars use Twitter only to let fans know about their upcoming projects and events and rarely check their mentions.

Some stars use Twitter to communicate with fans and will reply and follow fans even if they don’t follow them. They go out of their way to check mentions.

Some stars follow rules from their parents, managers or publicists and only follow fan Twitters, people they know and cast mates.

Some stars only follow people on the 1st of the month or use a follow as a prize for a contest.

Some stars have a Twitter but hardly ever tweet.

Some stars don’t have Twitter but have posers. BEWARE!

When I meet a star, I ask about their Twitter. Bella Thorne follows a few people on the 1st of the month. Tucker Albrizzi only follows a few fans as a prize for winning contests. Keke Palmer and Doc Shaw followed me as a reward for winning a contest! Ariana Grande only follows Fan Twitter accounts and cast mates. Booboo Stewart said he gets so many tweets he probably sees less that 10% of them. Romi Dames, Erin Sanders, Caitlyn T. Love, Geno Segers, Bella Thorne and Sasha Pieterse are all awesome about getting back to their fans and replying often. Usually this happens late at night as they’re winding down from a long day! I notice Bella does it after a taping.

Please use Twitter etiquette:

1. Don’t spam your followers or a star.

2. Never copy and paste. If you like what you read the RT it!

3. Don’t pose! Be honest. Be yourself.

4. Don’t post spoilers! If you are on the East Coast you may know something 3 hours before the west coast. Don’t spoil anything!

5. Don’t cuss a lot or for no reason! My mom makes me unfollow people who cuss for no reason.

6. Be nice! Even though people don’t know who you are, your words still hurt! I’ve read posts to Madison De La Garza that were just cruel! She’s a little girl and doesn’t deserve that.

7. Don’t ask other twitter friends to get people to follow you or deliver messages. That’s just not cool! Twitter should be fun, not work!

A Few Words About Posers

I have had a lot of experiences with posers. I know because when I meet celebs in person, I find out their real Twitter name! I kind of feel sorry for posers. They must have a pretty sad life if they spend hours pretending to be someone else. I feel sorry for them but I’m also pretty mad about it too!
They are liars and thieves. They are stealing someone’s identity! They are also fooling thousands of people and when they are exposed, all of those followers are disappointed! Many celebs are verified but not all so use these tips to spot a poser:

Tips for Spotting a Poser

1. People who should be following them, aren’t! If the star is a child or part of a cast are the parents or cast mates following them? For Example, if Noah Cyrus had an account, Billy Ray and Tish would be following her. Carolina Sunshine had a poser yet none of the Shake It Up cast was following her!

2. Posers often ask for shout outs or follows from other celebrities. Real celebs DON’T do this!

3. Posers only post pics that are found easily on other websites like Just Jared or Ocean Up. Real celebs stars post funny pics from set or just candid pics of their everyday lives like their snack or pet!

4. Posers often mess up and confuse their life and the celeb their posing as. One asked for shout outs on her real birthday (not the celeb’s)

5. Posers Tweet a LOT. Real celebs have super busy lives and come on Twitter every so often and then only for a while.

I hope this helps! If you have more tips to add, leave it as a comment OK? Thanks!

Meeting Stars at Meet and Greets and CD/Book Signings

Meet and Greets and CD/Book/DVD signings are another way to meet stars. Many stars want to promote their careers, books, DVD’s or CDs and work with their publicist, managers, and the companies that are involved with the products work together to plan an event. We’ve attended many and they vary greatly. Some are very organized with ruled posted and requirements spelled  out clearly.

Typically, there are 3 types of meet and greets: The first is when a new DVD, CD or book is out and the artist is signing and promoting it! The second is when a star is just meeting fans as part of something like a radio, mall, grand opening event. The third is a meet and greet before of after a concert.

CD, DVD, Book Signing

Sometimes, as with Justin Bieber’s first CD, My World and his recently written book a purchase is required days before from the  same store sponsoring the event, a wristband is issued and then people return days later for the actual event. Most times however, you just show up and wait. Often the waits can be very long! We’ve waited 6-7 hours to meet Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez. An important note is that pictures are not guaranteed at a signing. Even if you ask ahead and you are told yuo can take pictures, this can change at any time. All that is really guaranteed is the autograph! The artist is pressured by his/her management to see as many people as possible in order to promote the product. Sadly, fans have waited hours sometimes even camped out and then are only able to spend mere seconds with the star.

My tips for CD, DVD and Book Signings:

1. Get there early. Call the venue, book store, mall, etc ad ask how early you’ll be allowed to line up. Then get there earlier!

2. Plan ahead.

a. Bring cards games, magazines, activities we make a poster while we wait.

b.Bring a blanket or chairs to sit on,

c. Bring water and snacks, etc.

3. Be prepared!

a. have fresh or fully charged batteries

b. if you have a gift, have it ready to go

c. decide ( if pics are allowed) if you will take individual pics or a group ne.

d. If there is something you always wanted to say, Keep it in your mind
I have seen so many people get “starstruck” and forget the one rthing they waited hours to say!

*If they say no pics have a Designated Picture Taker who finds a spot to take the pic NOT AT THE TABLE  You’ll be told to put your camera away as you approach the table. That’s how the above pic with Demi was taken.

Basic Meet and Greets

The second type of meet and Greet is often sponsored by a mall, a store , or a radio station. In LA, Radio Disney has sponsored quite a few. The Disney Store has has grand openings and M&G’s were included. There are a bit less stressful. Many of the above tips apply. Most times fans can take pics and get autographs. Plan ahead and have one thing you really want autographed as there is often a one autograph per person limit!

Meet and Greets at Concerts

Often when a celebrity has a concert one option is to pay extra for a meet and greet. The Jonas Brothers charged $250 per person at their last concert! Bands like Allstar Weekend has them for free often and Honor Society has them as a bonus for a merchandise purchase. Again the tips above apply. When you are paying for them, the stars often spend a bit more time with each guest. Management and the celebs make sure that fans like their picture and have autographs. Sometimes, as with Selena Gomez’ last concert at the Roxy, pics are taken by a professional and the are available on line the next day!

OK I hope this was helpful! I’ll go back and edit as needed.

Meet Stars at Charity Events

Another great way to meet celebrities is at charity events! Many stars support certain charities and are even ambassadors for them. Selena Gomez represents Unicef. Doug Brochu works with Habitat for Humanity. Many celebrities support different charities.

There are different types of events you can attend:

1. A carnival/festival.

We recently attended Kids Helping Children. The event took place at the Anaheim Hilton and had activities like face painting and bounce houses. Many stars were on hand to meet, take pics with fans and sign autographs! We met Malese Jow, Chelsea Staub, Joey King, Caroline Sunshine, Shane Harper, Brandon T. Russell, Savvy and Mandy and others.

2. A run 5k 10k etc.

For these events, you need to sign up in advance, pay a fee, and raise money. You can sign up the same day but expect crowds and long lines. We met Jane Lynch and Dakota Fanning at 5ks.

3 Project Based

Sometimes a charity event isn’t raising money but asking for you to come and volunteer. We recently attended a Habitat for Humanity event where we walked to a site, planted plants and put up a few pre-made walls. When we walked back to the original place, food was served and performers entertained us! We met Bristol Palin, Mark Ballis, Doug Brochu, and Joey King at the Habitat for Humanity event. We also packed food for poor people in Haiti. We were in charge of green beans and helped put the boxes together on an assembly line. This was the first time we met Sasha Pieterse, Erin Sanders and Ryan Newman.

4. Concert/ Performance

Sometimes a charity will put together a whole concert or show and charge money for tickets. These events may not include a meet and greet so check before you pay. This is how we met Ariana Grande the first time! She and other performers from Broadway put on a show at the
Music Box in Hollywood!

There are other types of charity events as well. Ariana Grande and Joey King both worked as waitresses at Chili’s to raise money for St Jude’s Children’s Hospital. We’ve gone to fashion shows as well.

Charity events are great way to meet stars! Some events are very expensive and sometimes meet and greets are only included in VIP packages. These can go as high as thousands of dollars! Other events such as the service project ones are free. Just remember nothing is guaranteed. Check out the websites ahead. They usually state policies. If you plan ahead you can email or use Twitter if you have questions about an event!

What’s nice about meeting celebs this way is you are also helping out people or animals who are less fortunate!

thanks, I hope this blog helped you!

Meet stars at Movie Premieres

Prior to most movies being released there is a Premiere. If you are luckey enough to live in a big city like Los Angeles, New York or London, you can show show up and watch the stars walk the red carpet in person. When you attend a premiere as a fan you aren’t going to be able to see the movie unless you have won a contest, have an invitation, or get very lucky! Also you aren’t likely to see the actual stars of the movie. They usually are driven straight the red carpet and are quite busy doing interviews and taking pictures for the press. You may however, see the invited guests of the movie company. For example, when Disney has a premiere they usually send invitations to the PR people of all Disney and ABC stars. Seeing stars this way has certain pros and cons however.

The pros are: The events are free, you will see more that one star, the events are very exciting with reporters, other fans and paparazzi! The cons are : Nothing is guaranteed (as with all free events), the major stars are very hard to meet, you don’t know who will be there ,unless they’ve Tweeted about it, and the events are very crowded!

Having gone to a few premieres in Hollywood, this is my advice:

1. Know the logistics of where the premiere is going to be. Most theaters establish a pattern for traffic, where the red carpet will be, where the reporters will be and where the viewing area will be. Once you know this, you’ll be able to maximize your chances of actually meeting people.

2. Arrive early. If stars do come to the fan viewing area, they are going to be able to interact with the fans that are right at the barricades.

3. Have a camera with fresh batteries and Sharpies and an autograph book. Use a durable bag/backpack and always have these things on hand!

4. If you see stars, call them by their real name..not their character’s name. Let them know how much you enjoy their work but keep it short and sweet.. so they can see other fans as well.. We often say. “Hi_____, we love you on _________ . Can we get a quick pic?” “You’re awesome!” or” “You’re so funny” and “Thanks so much for the ____”

5. Sometimes, we’ve hung around for the premiere to be over and catch the celebs on their way back to the cars.. Remember, the major stars will likely be picked up by cars and taken to an after party. You may get very lucky and the after party is walking distance from the theater. This happened to us 3 times. We were able to get nice pics after Secretariat You Again and Tangled! and It’s even more important to keep it quick and say, “Sorry to bother you but….could I get a quick pic” “Did you like the movie?” Thanks so much!!

*ETIQUETTE TIP 1: It is really bad etiquette to ask a celeb who is a parent with his/her  child/children for a picture or autograph if they are alone with their children. If it is clear that the other parent or a caregiver is attending to the children and the celeb is making eye contact and smiling with fans than by all means ask for a pic or autograph!

*ETIQUETTE TIP 2: If you see a celeb before or after the premiere and they are shopping or eating nearby or going back to their car, approach them quietly and resist the urge to shout their name and run towards them.. most celebs enjoy their quiet time when they aren’t “on duty” They love their fans and usually don’t mind a quick pic but if you bring a lot of attention to a celeb it can be uncomfortable and sometimes a security issue.. this happened to us with Ashley Greene at the Jonas Brothers concert and with Matthew Finley at the Road Dogs Game! Not that we shouted out their names, of course, but both needed security to escort them away when the crowds got rowdy!

I hope this was helpful! If so please leave a comment or click LIKE or RT on Twitter

Thanks!

Meet Stars at TV Show Tapings

This may be the best kept secret in Hollywood. When your favorite comedy, talk show, and game show is being taped, most are taped in front of a live studio audience. Not only is it free to attend these tapings, it’s illegal to sell tickets to these events. Now, of course, you are probably thinking, “This sounds too good to be true.” In a way you’re right and in a way you are wrong. It is absolutely possible to attend these tapings. Simply Google audience tickets and you will find several companies that can help you get tickets. http://www.tvtickets.com is one of the largest companies that offer this service. You usually register on line and receive tickets through email. Make sure you read all the info about minimum ages, check in time, what allowed in terms of cameras or food.

The bad news is that these services often overbook tapings and having a ticket does NOT guarantee admission. Each show is a bit different but often VIPS (executives and family and guests of the actors) receive priority access, then groups that are specially invited based on a certain demographic (for example Shake it Up gives priority to dance groups and cheer leading squads). Then people who have been turned away in the past and allowed in. At this point the people with general tickets are allowed in. Some studios are larger some are smaller so there is just n way of knowing for sure if you’ll be able to get in. My advice is go early. Obviously, if there is space after all the “special” people go in the people in the front of the line go in next!

If you are lucky enough to get in, you are in for treat! There is often a warm up guy to keep the audience entertained in between filming. You may watch a prior episode or if its a new show, you may see the pilot to catch you up on the characters, setting, etc. Tapings take 3-4 hours and are very repetitive. One scene may be shot several times to get different camera angles or try different punch lines or expressions. Sometimes, there is a special guest star which is quite a treat! Most times the staff bring you pizza and water and the warm up guy has little contests and talent shows. Audience members can earn raffle tickets or prizes.

After the taping, you are usually allowed to get autographs from the actors from the audience seating area. Sometimes pictures are allowed but always wait for permission. Each show has their own rules!

I hope this has been helpful! Let me know if it has by leaving a comment!

Thanks,

The tapings I have been lucky enough to go to are:
