Debby Ryan’s Radio Rebel set to Premiere February 17!!

On January 13, during the premiere of Frenemies a promo aired for a new Disney Channel Original Movie called Radio Rebel starring Debby Ryan. It is set to air on February 17, 2012. Debby filmed this in Vancouver last summer and has kept it pretty quiet.

Radio Rebel was rumored to be called Shrinking Violet. That is how the movie is still listed on IMDB.

The movie is based on a 2009 book by Danielle Joseph. The original main character is named Theresa (Tere) but Debby’s character’s name is Tara.

The book’s plot is, Tere, a shy high schooler dreams of being a DJ at her step dad’s radio station. When she gets the job as a DJ named Sweet T, she’s a hit but still keeps her identity a secret! Then the radio has a songwriting contest. The prize is a date with Sweet T! How can she keep her secret now?

It looks like the movie will follow this basic plot.

Debby Ryan has come a long way from her role on Barney (Let’s Go To The Fire Station) in 2006! She has played Bailey on The Suite Life on Deck. She has starred in 16 Wishes. She starred in What If.. She also guest starred on Hannah Montana, Wizards of Waverly Place, Private Practice and The Haunting Hour:The Series.

She now stars as Jessie in the new hit Disney Series! Her co-stars are Peyton List, Cameron Boyce, Karan Brar and Skai Jackson. She is currently in London promoting the show.

She is also a singer and song writer. Her music video Deck the Halls played on Disney Channel last December. Hakuna Matata is on Disneymania 7 and she sang a song, A Wish Comes True Everyday, on the 16 Wishes soundtrack.
