Fan Mail Successes and how long it took to get autographed pics!

I’m Alexi. I meet tons of stars by going to events in LA like signings, premieres, meet and greets, launches and charity events. My pics with celebs are on Flickr

I help people meet celebs by posting about upcoming events on Twitter at @alexirob

If you can’t meet celebs but still want to get signed pictures, autographs and write letters to celebrities, you can use fan mail addresses.

I decided to write letters myself to see who would send what and how long it would take.

On January 11 and 12, I mailed over 50 letters using my guide and Google to find autographs I didn’t already have fanmail.biz is also a great source! I sent self addressed stamped envelopes and letters of request. I put $1.08 on an envelope with my address on it and folded that up and put in in a big envelope that also had $1.08 worth of stamps! I also wrote personalized letters to each celeb. saying I was a fan and would appreciate a signed pic.

On January 18th, I received this from Brandon Johnson who plays Gary Wilde on Shake It Up and host My Yard Goes Disney!

A Complete Guide to Writing Fan Mail

Meeting Celebrities is a thrilling experience! If you live in Los Angeles, New York or other big cities you might be lucky enough to meet a celebrity at an event in real life and maybe ask for an autograph.
If not, you can still request autographs using fan mail. Most celebrities will reply to fan mail and see it as another part of being famous. Some send a personalized signed picture. Some send a handwritten note. You may even get a cast photo or memorabilia from the show the star works on. Some celebrities have staff who handle fan mail and they simply send out pre printed signed pics.

There are several on line resources to find star’s addresses. I have a blog with many Disney and Nickelodeon stars addresses. Also Fanmail.biz is a great source. That site has forums and 1000′s of addresses.

Some stars have different addresses
Via Venue means the address at the location the celebrity is filming at.
For example: Bella Thorne tapes Shake it Up at LA Center Studios
So her via venue address is :

Most stars also have an address they prefer fan mail be delivered to which may be the manager /talent agent

There are a few terms we use so often, we have abbreviations for them:

LOR = Letter of Request

SASE = self addressed stamped envelope

TTM= through the mail

PP pre-printed

A Letter of Request should always be included in your fan mail. If you are requesting something from a celeb take the time to let him/her know what they mean to you.

Sample LOR:

I’ve been a fan ever since I heard/saw _________. I think you are an amazing _________. I follow you career and can’t wait until _____.
I follow you on Twitter. I hope you hit ________ followers soon. It would be great to meet you someday. You inspire me to __________.

SASE= self addressed stamped envelope
It is always good etiquette to send an envelope that you have already addressed with your address and Put stamps on. $1.08 is the suggested amount an 9×12 envelope with a few papers inside.

TTM = Through the Mail
Someone might say I got this autograph in person and this one TTM .. Meaning through mail.

So here are the steps to sending fan mail.

1 Get the supplies you will need
2 9×12 envelopes
Paper for letters
Stamps
Optional pre printed address labels
Optional : Markers or stickers just for fun

2 Decide who you will send mail to. I think it’s a good idea to send out a bunch at the same time. That way you will hopefully get some back. Not all addresses are current and not all celebs reply.

3. Look on my blog or search Fanmail.Biz for addresses.

4 write your letters of request

5 include 1 letter, 1 pre addressed self stamped envelope in each envelope.

6 Mail Them

7 Wait for replies

Hopefully you will receive some with 2-3 weeks. Some might take months if a star is filming on location or has a fan mail address in a different state like Ariana Grande.

Hey Guys,
My friend Caley has Cystic Fibrosis. That’s a disease that affects her lungs mostly but makes her sick a lot! She has to have treatments, medicine and go to the hospital A LOT! Her birthday is coming up and her family and I want to make her birthday wish come true!

Dreamagazine is having a winter party 12/5/11 and Caley wants to come down with her family! Times are a little tough so Caley’s mom kinda joked in Twitter let’s get Caley to LA send a donation.

Well my mom and I think that with tons of awesome people on Twitter with kind hearts we can totally make this happen!

The thing about Caley is she is only healthy some of the time — if we just say let’s wait for another party another time — she might be too sick!

So let’s get her to LA this Monday!

Meeting Hailee Steinfeld

Hailee is a young actress that beat out 15,000 actresses for the role of Hattie Ross in the Movie True Grit. She did such a great job on that movie that she was nominated and won tons of awards! She presented at the Oscars with Justin Beiber. Her fashion is amazing. She has been to many premieres and events and people love seeing her. She didn’t get the role in Hunger Games but did get the role playing Juliet.

We met her after a taping of Shake it up. She is very good friends with Adam Irigoyen an actor on that show!
She came over when we called and took a pic, chatted for a while and gave me her autograph.

The actor who plays Deuce is Adam Irigoyen. He has a Twitter and when Hailee Steinfeld started to get really well known he kept tweeting that she didn’t have Twitter. We saw a poser on Twitter that EVERYONE was believing. It was right around Oscar time. The poser had about 3000 followers and was fooling everyone! It bugged us so much so we set out to expose the poser! Other people on Twitter helped  HaileeSteinfans, TeamSteinfeld, LoveforHaileeS ,SteinfeldNation, CarlyDemetria and Dbeist all  helped. Some people were mad about us doing that and sent mean tweets!
They finally deleted the Twitter. Hailee confirmed that she has never had Twitter last night when we met her. She even thanked us for exposing the poser!!
I can’t wait to see what roles Hailee gets next!!

Meeting Joe Jonas

We met Joe at Wango Tango May 14, 2011. He was there to introduce his first single as a solo artist, apart from his brothers Nick and Kevin. The song is called “See No More,” He took pics with fans going in and on his way out! My mom took video. He hugged fans, took pics, someone even kissed him. There was a guy from Pop Candies who took video of Joe with me. Joe also gave me his autograph. I’m so happy I met him! He was very quiet and sweet with all of us! I can’t wait for See No More in June.

Shake it up is an awesome new Disney Channel original series. It stars 7 young people and is set in Chicago! I’ve gone to two tapings of the show and met the young talented stars several times! It has dancing, music, friendships, comedy, drama, and everything you want in a show! In the pilot episode the girls who love dance get chosen to dance on Shake It Up a TV show based in Chicago. Stefanie Scott was originally cast as Tinka and then replaced by Caroline Sunshine. Each week, different guest dancers perform. One week , for the taping of Meatball it Up, Quest Crew were the guests. (We were at this taping. It was originally called “She Works Hard for the Money”) Other guests have been Kenton Boyd and Chris Trousdale. We were also at a taping called Match it Up where CeCe tries to find a girlfriend for Deuce.

Bella just turned 13. She plays Cecelia Cece

Bella was born in Florida and has 3 siblings. She got her first modeling job at just 6 weeks old! She been in over 40 commercials and modeled for Kohl’s and Justice! She co-starred in Big Love and got her big break in Shake it up! She supports charities and when she turned 13, she used Twitter to ask for donations to her favorite charity.

Her character Cece is outgoing, energetic and always takes risks. We found out in a recent episode that CeCe, like Bella, has Dyslexia and has fears and anxiety related to having this disorder. Cece has a little brother Flynn, played by Davis Cleveland. They have a single mother who is a police officer in Chicago!

She just turned 14.Her Twitter is @Zendaya96 . She hasn’t been too active but recently is tweeting a lot more. Follow her!

Her name means “give thanks”. Her mom is a teacher in Oakland. She has modeled for Macy’s, Mervyn’s and Old Navy. Her mother remains in Oakland and Zendaya is living in LA with her loving father. Happily, Zendaya goes home for the holidays and her mom can travel to LA often. Two of the times that we met Zendaya, her mom was here in LA as well!

Zendaya Plays Raquel “Rocky” Cece’s best friend, Rocky is timid, nervous and wants everyone to like her. Cece is always pulling Rocky along pushing her out of her comfort zone! Her brother ,Ty, is played by Roshon Fegan.

Roshon Fegan

Roshon’s dad is Roy Fegan, an actor. At 18, Roshon is the oldest actor playing a kid on the show. You may recognize him as Sander from Camp Rock And Camp Rock 2. He plays many instruments and is very talented! Roshon’s dad is African American and his mom is Filipino. He was also the “amazed kid” in Spider Man 2. He was born in LA. We have et him about 4 times and he’s always been a gentleman! His Twitter is @Yaboyro . I hope you follow him and show him your support.

His Character is Ty, Rocky (Zendaya’s) big brother. He’s a ladies’ man with a big heart. He tried to teach Flynn how to get a girlfriend and Gunther how to be cool! He took Tinka on her first date and was a sweetheart! He and Deuce (Adam Irigoyan) are good friends.

Kenton Duty

Kenton is 15 years old and plays Gunther, a really funny foreign exchange student. His sister is Tinka. They love dancing and dressing in really sparkly clothes. Tinka and Gunther are like Ryan and Sharpay in High School Musical. Their characters are really funny and silly. When they babysit Flynn, they don’t understand things and Flynn tricks them a lot. One of Gunther’s famous lines is “Hello Bay-Bee” When he says it, it’s really funny. We’ve met him like 5 times and his Twitter is @KentonJDuty There IS a poser @KentonDuty with 1,500 followers! Kenton is a really sweet guy who cares about his friends, fans and charities.

Kenton started acting at 9 in Dallas Texas. Kenton has been on Lost as the young Jacob and on Jay Leno as a teenager and as a spelling bee kid. He has been on Ctrl and Crazy on the Outside.

Caroline Sunshine

Caroline Sunshine is also 15. She plays Tinka. Gunther’s Sister. She is sweet and supportive of her brother. Her date with Ty was really sweet. She is a great dancer and has a big heart!

Caroline was born in Atlanta, Georgia. She has 2 younger brothers and supports several charities. You may recognize her from her role in Marmaduke.

Her Twitter is @4castissunshine she has some posers that have fooled many people. I promise you that we have met her and know her Twitter. She is busy and doesn’t tweet much but please don’t get tricked by the posers!!!

Adam Irogoyan

Adam plays Deuce ,a friend to Bella and Cece and Ty’s best friend. Deuce is always trying to sell the girls something strange to make a buck. On one episode, he sold them some clothes that were electrified and shocked them. Once, he sold them watches where one girl had the hour hand and one girl had the minute hand. In a upcoming show called Match It Up, Cece tries to find the perfect girlfriend for Deuce. She is JUST like him!

He is 13, born in Florida and played on Wizards of Waverly Place as a “New Conscience” . He has a brother named Jake. He has always been sweet when we’ve met. His Twitter is @AdamIrigoyan
Davis Cleveland

Davis is only 8. He has been on Zeke and Luther as Roy Waffles, Luther’s little brother. He played Chauncey on Pair of Kings (Big Kings on Campus, we were at this taping). He was also on Hannah Montana as “Funtopia Kid” He has also been on commercials lately. He just got on Twitter over Christmas break. His Twitter name is @SIUTexan. He’s awesome and tweets back. You gotta follow this cool guy!! In Match it Up Henry needs Flynn’s help to be a Scout.. It’s pretty funny!

His little friend , Henry is a cute actor named Buddy. his Twitter is @Budster925 He plays a really smart kid named Henry who tutors Cece.

This is a great show, really entertaining and sweet. We think it’s a little silly when kids can open their own bank account with no adult around, and Flynn seems left alone a lot.. but we understand it’s a t.v. show.. We’re excited about new guest stars.. Cat Seeley is playing a principal soon..

Meet Stars at Charity Events

Another great way to meet celebrities is at charity events! Many stars support certain charities and are even ambassadors for them. Selena Gomez represents Unicef. Doug Brochu works with Habitat for Humanity. Many celebrities support different charities.

There are different types of events you can attend:

1. A carnival/festival.

We recently attended Kids Helping Children. The event took place at the Anaheim Hilton and had activities like face painting and bounce houses. Many stars were on hand to meet, take pics with fans and sign autographs! We met Malese Jow, Chelsea Staub, Joey King, Caroline Sunshine, Shane Harper, Brandon T. Russell, Savvy and Mandy and others.

2. A run 5k 10k etc.

For these events, you need to sign up in advance, pay a fee, and raise money. You can sign up the same day but expect crowds and long lines. We met Jane Lynch and Dakota Fanning at 5ks.

3 Project Based

Sometimes a charity event isn’t raising money but asking for you to come and volunteer. We recently attended a Habitat for Humanity event where we walked to a site, planted plants and put up a few pre-made walls. When we walked back to the original place, food was served and performers entertained us! We met Bristol Palin, Mark Ballis, Doug Brochu, and Joey King at the Habitat for Humanity event. We also packed food for poor people in Haiti. We were in charge of green beans and helped put the boxes together on an assembly line. This was the first time we met Sasha Pieterse, Erin Sanders and Ryan Newman.

4. Concert/ Performance

Sometimes a charity will put together a whole concert or show and charge money for tickets. These events may not include a meet and greet so check before you pay. This is how we met Ariana Grande the first time! She and other performers from Broadway put on a show at the
Music Box in Hollywood!

There are other types of charity events as well. Ariana Grande and Joey King both worked as waitresses at Chili’s to raise money for St Jude’s Children’s Hospital. We’ve gone to fashion shows as well.

Charity events are great way to meet stars! Some events are very expensive and sometimes meet and greets are only included in VIP packages. These can go as high as thousands of dollars! Other events such as the service project ones are free. Just remember nothing is guaranteed. Check out the websites ahead. They usually state policies. If you plan ahead you can email or use Twitter if you have questions about an event!

What’s nice about meeting celebs this way is you are also helping out people or animals who are less fortunate!
